Charleston, Magnolia Plantation and The Hunley

In Charleston we had a wonderful stay with the Griffith's, Clare and Beaty. We toured the Magnolia Plantation and visited the Hunley, a Civil War submarine designed by the Confederates to break the Union blockcade.

We drove down this entrance to the Magnolia Plantation
The cash crop for the plantation was rice grown in shallow pools like this one.

This Confederate submarine sunk a Union ship. It was the first sinking of a ship by a submarine.
